Eight airports operate in the following cities: Warsaw, Gdansk, Katowice, Krakow, Poznan, Rzeszow, Szczecin and Wroclaw. LOT Polish Airlines is Poland’s national carrier.
LOT Polish Airlines came into being on January 1st 1929, with four-seater Junkers and eight-seater Fokker aircraft. In the following years the fleet was enlarged and modernized with the number of destinations also increasing.
At the outbreak of World War II the fleet was evacuated to several countries including Great Britain. Imposed communism after the war required LOT to purchase Russian made aircraft but their high operating costs and lack of passenger refinement were severe disadvantages.
The demise of Polish communism in 1989 led almost immediately to the introduction of new Boeing aircraft and the mass sale of all Russian aircraft. The Russian planes needed a flight deck crew of 5, compared to 2 on Boeing aircraft and consumed twice as much fuel. In 1999 Embraer aircraft were chosen for some internal flights and shorter-haul international destinations.
LOT was the first central European Airline to modernize its aircraft so enjoying greater safety, reliability, passenger comfort and lower running costs. Flying this young fleet the airline has brought to bear over 75 years of flying experience.
Several times winner of the coveted "Best Business Airline in Eastern Europe" award, all passengers experience the traditional "home away from home" quality of LOT in-flight service aboard the most modern aircraft.
In Great Britain, LOT flies to Poland from London Heathrow, London Gatwick and Manchester.
Internal flights from Warsaw go to Gdansk, Szczecin, Bydgoszcz, Poznan, Zielona Gora, Wroclaw, Lodz, Katowice, Rzeszow and Krakow.
LOT has improved their Manchester-Warsaw flight schedules for businessmen and the vacationer. Home and back in the day and weekends in Poland are now conveniently possible from the north of England.
